PREVENTION
Discovering causes is the first and essential step in creating functional and effective responses both to the very existence of the causes, and to the restoration of their consequences.
We believe in holistic prevention designed to educate and inspire children and teens, in the context of their communities, schools and/or churches, with the goal of stopping exploitation before it happens.
HELP CONTINUE OUR PREVENTION PROGRAMS
When it comes to prevention of human trafficking, we must first of all pay attention to the causes that lead to the situation of trafficking. Poverty, unemployment or domestic violence as causes of human trafficking come from different social spheres, reflecting the nature of economic, political, familial and other relationships in a community.
Safety Fairs
Our Safety Fairs educate children ages 5-15 to protect their bodies, set positive boundaries and report abuse. The LFI staff, in partnership with local community leaders, teaches four main points to children in order to break the cycle of abuse. The prevention fairs are a space that allows the prevention of sexual abuse to work, reinforcing both the participation and the diverse abilities, skills and creativity that all children have.
Feeding Program “At The Table”
This is a meal program that promotes the development of relational processes by bringing people together (as) to the table to share food. In addition to providing nutrition to children, this program also helps to promote the use and development of recreational and socio-educational processes in the collective construction of social skills.
Learn To Learn
Because children are the most vulnerable to exploitation and trafficking, we are passionate about prevention. Education is a powerful prevention tool for children and a right they all deserve.
We are excited to announce a new pilot program in Costa Rica called, Learning to Learn. This program is a door to learning that encourages every child to see that, regardless of how they learn, they can do great things with their abilities. Through a combination of the science of education and psychology, each child receives an individualized learning plan according to their needs. We have fifteen children sponsored in this new pilot program and it will be conducted by our lead educator, Katha Alfaro.
